Driven to Make a Difference

SRTR Mission

To provide advanced statistical and epidemiological analyses related to solid organ allocation and transplantation in support of the Department of Health and Human Services and its agents in their oversight of the national organ transplantation system.

SRTR Mission

Background

The Chronic Disease Research Group, a division of the Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute, operates the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) under contract from the Division of Transplantation, Health Systems Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The SRTR contractor is responsible for providing statistical and other analytic support to the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) for purposes including the formulation and evaluation of organ allocation and other OPTN policies. Additionally, SRTR provides analytic support to HHS in a variety of areas, including policy formulation and evaluation, system performance metrics, economic analysis, and preparation of recurring and special reports to Congress.

Section 373 of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act requires the operation of SRTR to support ongoing evaluation of the scientific and clinical status of solid organ transplantation. The U.S. Congress passed the National Organ Transplant Act (NOTA; P.L. 98-507) in 1984.

Vision

SRTR strives to be a trusted resource for epidemiological data and statistical analyses regarding the status of solid organ transplantation and the transplantation system in the United States. SRTR seeks to provide information that is accurate, clear, and timely for use by the public, HHS, the OPTN/United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), transplant programs, organ procurement organizations, transplant candidates, transplant recipients, living donors, and donor and patient families.
